Often called “Florida’s Van Gogh\,” his love for painting and those he met along the way lives on in his works today. The Tallahassee Museum is excited to present a large body of his artwork from all phases of his career. The museum is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. on Sunday.

DESCRIPTION:St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh\, N.C.\, will open a new art exhibit Oct. 5 called “SAU Homecoming Exhibition: Mr. Ernest M. Lee\, Folk Artist\, Son of St. Aug.” featuring the work of Lee\, a former student of the school and North Carolina resident. \nThe exhibit in the Seby B. Jones Art Gallery includes 32 16-by-20-inch reproductions of Lee’s work\, including his first painting of a young girl completed at age 13 and other pieces he painted throughout his career. Often called Florida’s van Gogh because of his impasto painting technique\, Lee grew up in North Carolina but moved to Gainesville in the early 2000s. \nThe university will host an opening reception in the art gallery at 1315 Oakwood Ave.\nin Raleigh\, N.C.\, 27610 on its homecoming weekend Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit will run through Oct. 31. Gallery hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.
